Everton fans discuss Gylfi Sigurdsson after Liverpool Echo article

Some Everton fans have been reacting on Twitter following an article in The Liverpool Echo about midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.

It would be fair to say that it has been a poor season for the £45m man, who has come under criticism from the Goodison Park faithful for his performances during the 2019/20 campaign – the 30-year-old has two goals and one assist in 24 appearances in all competitions this term.

In addition, the Iceland international was handed out a diabolical 2/10 rating by The Liverpool Echo following his display in the third round of the FA Cup against Liverpool at Anfield at the beginning of the month.

As the latest Liverpool Echo report about him points out, Sigurdsson is averaging a goal or an assist every 788 minutes during the current campaign, whereas last season it was one every 165 minutes.

Despite the report saying that the former Swansea City man has improved since Marco Silva was sacked in December and that he showed more bravery against Brighton last time out, some Everton supporters clearly aren’t impressed by him.

Some individuals simply want to get rid of Sigurdsson, with one even wanting to sell him before Friday’s transfer deadline, while another labelled him as “the most overrated player we have”.

Others chose to look at the article more closely and discuss if and how Sigurdsson could have a future in a Carlo Ancelotti team.

However, it wasn’t a positive analysis as one believed that he doesn’t have the pace and speed of thought to play in the middle in a 4-4-2 system.

Did he really play for us?! No Everton fan has managed to name all of these obscure Toffees players….

The other had a similar train of thought by believing he isn’t a DM and that he hasn’t got the legs to be a box-to-box player, and that seems a fair point with a No.10 role looking to be the one he is most suited to.

In other Everton news, one Toffees transfer target showed at the weekend why Farhad Moshiri must spend £35m to sign him…
