Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing up a loan move for Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Spurs midfielder has made 22 appearances so far this season but just six of those have been starts. Now, according to Newcastle publication, The Chronicle, a move that has been 'bubbling under the surface' is Hojbjerg joining Eddie Howe's men on loan. Whether that happens, however, remains to be seen.

Hojbjerg is behind Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur in the midfield pecking order at Tottenham and Newcastle are light on players in midfield, with Joelinton, Joe Willock, and Elliot Anderson all injured, plus Sandro Tonali is serving a ban for gambling breaches. Moreover, Newcastle's CEO Darren Eales said the club may be forced to sell some of their biggest names to comply with financial fair play rules, so a loan move could be on the cards.

Hojbjerg signed for Spurs in 2020 for £15 million from Southampton and defender Kyle Walker-Peters went in the opposite direction. The 28-year-old Danish international has since gone onto play 165 times for the north London club, scoring 10 goals in the process.

If a deal is to be agreed, the two teams have until midnight on February 1 to get this move done as the January transfer window shuts then. On the pitch, Tottenham host Manchester City in round four of the FA Cup on Friday and Newcastle travel to Fulham in the competition a day later.
